5 summer beauty must-haves

5 summer beauty must-haves

What's essential for looking great
this summer? We went to the experts'the finalists of the 2011 Best
Health Blog Awards'for their take on what's hot. My summer must haves
include: a beautiful sun dress, retro sunglasses, and neon accessories.
My top-of-the-list, can’t-live-without-it recommendation is SPF,
naturally. For face and body, reliable sun protection is about more than
just wanting to look young longer. Daily SPF is about reducing the
possibility of skin cancer, too. I burn easily, so I’m all about a
minimum of SPF 30. I prefer mineral formulas that deflect UV rays with
physical sunscreen ingredients titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide. Three
options: Cliniderm Gentle Protective Lotion SPF 45, a non-greasy and
non-whitening lotion ($29); Skinceuticals Sheer Physical UV Defense SPF
50 ($38); and Green Beaver Certified Organic Sunscreen SPF 30 ($20). My
summer beauty must-have is Shu Uemura’s Under Base Mousse. Not only does
it act as a primer to prevent makeup meltdowns, but it also has a
slight tint to even out your skin tone and built-in SPF 30 to prevent
sun damage. It just has to be sunscreen. It may not be as sexy as a
gloss or fragrance, but it’s so important. And my pick? SkinCeuticals
Sheer Physical UV Defense SPF 50. I love the texture of this product as
it feels so light on my skin (like I’m not wearing sunscreen) and it
doesn’t make my face look greasy. Being a super-pale gal, I have to wear
A LOT of sunscreen and this one seems to make life a lot more
pleasurable. Summer is obviously sandal season. You never want to be
caught without a perfectly polished pedicure. My must-have summer colour
is from China Glaze. It’s a super bright neon coral pink called Flip
Flop Fantasy. I recommend applying three coats and a top coat to
maximize the colour. The best comment I’ve received so far when wearing
this colour? ‘Looks like you should be in a Duran Duran video.’ That’s
right, what’s old is new again!
